State of the Universe
Every morning at 08:00 UTC we take a snapshot across every galaxy and rank them by command points in use — the points players have actually spent building. The single most powerful commander in the universe is named alongside the leading galaxies and their top-scoring pilots. Each day's board is published here and posted to the Discord highscores forum, where you can reply to it.
The Three Categories
Asteroid Dominion tracks three daily leaderboard categories. Each resets at 00:00 UTC every day, and each is decided by a different number: a count of kills, a single life's score, and a single life's clock.
The three categories reward different playstyles. A fighter rules Most Kills; a strategist rules Biggest Score; a survivor rules Longest Survival. You can win all three in a single session if the stars align, but most days are one-category wins.
Two of the three are open to AI pilots as well as human ones. Biggest Score and Longest Survival count every ship in the galaxy, so the name at the top of those boards may belong to a bot. Most Kills counts human pilots only — a tireless AI would own that board outright.
Most Kills — The Day's Deadliest Pilot
Most Kills counts how many other ships you destroy between one midnight and the next. It is a tally, not a trophy: a single spectacular takedown counts once, and so does the smallest one. The pilot with the highest count when the day rolls over takes the board.
The category rewards volume and uptime — being in the fight often, and getting back into it quickly after you die. Dying costs you nothing on this board; your count carries across every life you live that day. That makes it the one category you can chase aggressively without protecting anything.
This board counts human pilots only. AI ships fly around the clock and would own it outright.
How to compete:
- Fight where the ships are. Contested space between faction sectors gives you more targets per minute than anywhere safe.
- Take the easy kills. A stripped, low-fuel pilot counts exactly the same as a level-40 one.
- Respawn and go again. A death costs you the life, not the tally.
- Coordinate with your faction's swarm to disable a target first; you land the killing blow and it goes on your count.
- The hit-list target is worth chasing for the 10x score bonus, but for this board it is worth exactly one kill.
Biggest Score — The Best Single Life
Biggest Score tracks the highest score reached in a single life that ended on the day. A "life" runs from the moment you spawned to the moment you died. Whatever score you reached in that span, that's the entry — and the entry lands on the day your life ended, not the day it started.
This category rewards sustained play during a hot streak. A pilot who logs in, racks up six kills + a mining circuit + a hit-list takedown across forty minutes without dying, then finally falls to a gravity storm, posts a score that's hard to match. A pilot who dies every five minutes never accumulates enough in one life to compete here, regardless of total daily score.
AI ships are eligible for this board, so the name at the top may belong to one.
How to compete:
- Pick a faction with built-in defensive structure. Concordium home patrols protect you indirectly, which is part of why it is the easiest start.
- Don't pick fights you can't easily win. Every fight is a chance to die and end your run.
- Mine during the hot streak. Mining contributes XP and score steadily without combat risk.
- Watch the event bar. Disengage during the 1.5x gravity phase and Bonefalls if you're carrying a high-score life.
- Don't get cocky in the late innings. The longer your life, the more is at stake when you finally die.
Longest Survival — The Endurance Champion
Longest Survival tracks the longest single life of the day, measured by the clock. Spawn, stay alive two and a half hours, die — that's two and a half hours on the board. Whether you scored well or barely scored at all is irrelevant.
It is wall-clock time, not time at the controls. Your ship stays in the world after you log off and keeps flying until it runs out of fuel, so a life can keep growing while you are away — and those hours count. That is deliberate: a parked ship is still in the world, still targetable, and still burning fuel, so surviving it is a real result. It also means the winning move is often to fuel up, park somewhere quiet, and leave.
This category rewards caution, positioning, and patience. Aggressive pilots rarely win it. AI ships are eligible here too, and they are patient by nature.
How to compete:
- Pick safe space. Outlaws cannot reasonably win this category — everyone can hit you. The board is usually topped by Bone Collector AI ships, which have the swarm's own sector to shelter in; you cannot join them, so find a quiet corner of your own instead.
- Stat priority: Health, Shield, Fuel — all defensive. Skip Weapon Damage. You don't need to kill; you need to not die.
- Top off your fuel before you stop playing. Fuel starvation is what ends a parked life.
- Avoid combat. Mine on quiet asteroids. Stay above 50% shield and 50% fuel at all times.
- Park on Stay somewhere quiet. The survival ladder still runs underneath it — the ship will break off to dodge a rock, evade when your shields go, run when it is badly hurt, and go find fuel below a quarter tank, all without you.
- Mind the gravity cycle. Every 90 seconds the pull changes, and one phase in six runs at 1.5x — it drags you toward walls and wormholes whether you want it or not. Position in low-mass space before it arrives.
How the Leaderboard Works
The three daily highscore categories are separate from the global all-time leaderboard, which tracks total score across a player's entire history. Use this distinction to plan your sessions:
- Global all-time leaderboard. Accumulates forever. Rewards consistent play over weeks and months. Top of this leaderboard is the long-term goal.
- Daily category leaderboards. Reset every day at 00:00 UTC. Reward concentrated effort within a 24-hour window. Good for chasing specific records.
The in-game leaderboard panel shows the current standings for both.
The hit list is a separate thing entirely, and it does not read your score. A target is active for 90 seconds, then the galaxy rests for 90 seconds before the next one, and the pick leans toward whoever has been alive longest — the older your current life, the likelier you are chosen. It can land on a pilot's structure as easily as their ship, and Bone Collectors are never targeted. So the bounty is not a reward for scoring well; it is the price of having survived a while, which is exactly the position a Longest Survival run puts you in. Hitting the target is worth 10x score to an attacker from another faction, and the target earns 2x while it lasts.
Daily Announcements in Discord
Every morning at 08:00 UTC the State of the Universe board is posted to the highscores forum in our Discord server. Each day gets its own post, so you can reply to a specific day's results and argue about them.
That post carries the single most powerful commander anywhere, the leading galaxies ranked by the command points their players have actually spent building, and the top-scoring pilot in each one. The same board appears at the top of this page, with every previous morning kept below it.
Our release notes post themselves to Discord too, each update as its own thread the moment it goes live — so you can react to a change under the change itself.
The three daily categories above are tracked and shown in game, on the High Score screen. Join the Discord, watch the daily board, and you'll start to recognize the names that show up regularly — the pilots who've turned highscore chasing into a craft.
